Full house refurbishment/ Single storey rear extension

Desenfans

The design acknowledges and compliments the materials, forms and proportions found within the immediate context. The additions to the existing property are modern but in-keeping and create a well-balanced architecture tailored to our client’s requirements.

Externally, London stock brick and a wildflower roof root the extension within its setting, while a cantilevered bronze canopy provides shading and a strong horizontal datum. Roof glazing enhances daylight penetration, complemented internally by exposed Ash beams that introduce rhythm, warmth and filtered light.

At roof level, additional accommodation is formed through both internal reconfiguration and a rear dormer with a barrel-vaulted roof, finished in bronze cladding.

The remainder of the house was comprehensively refurbished to create a cohesive and contemporary home.

The design responds to the surrounding context in scale, proportion and material, creating a harmonious yet distinctly modern addition tailored to the client’s needs.

Located within the Dulwich Village Conservation Area, the project required careful coordination with both the Dulwich Estate and local authority. A single-storey rear extension introduces a light-filled kitchen and dining space arranged across split levels, mediating the transition to the lower garden.
