Transitions
A nuanced architectural response that explores and celebrates moments of transition across space, material and function.

A defining gesture is the angled steel pergola, set at four degrees, which unifies new and existing elements while supporting planting. This geometry is echoed in the paving and built-in seating, creating a layered spatial dialogue that softens thresholds and level changes.
Materiality plays a key role, with reclaimed bricks, sustainably sourced timber and recycled glass terrazzo contributing to both environmental performance and tactile richness. Green roofs and climbing planting enhance biodiversity, embedding the architecture within its ecological context.
The project centres on the idea of transition—between old and new, interior and exterior, natural and constructed—expressed through subtle yet deliberate design moves.
The brief sought to create light-filled, interconnected living spaces opening onto a private garden. Two modest extensions and the reworking of the rear elevation achieve a cohesive transformation with minimal additional floor area. A landscaped terrace further enhances the relationship with the outdoors.
