Prince of Wales Theatre
This prominent Art Deco theatre, designed by architect Robert Cromie in 1937 was refurbished in 2004 by Arts Team/ RHWL Architects. The works involved substantial internal and external modifications.
Red Squirrel director Miles Griffies was the project architect and contract administrator and delivered the design development, tender, and construction stages of this refurbishment. Externally a new cantilevered window provides good visual links between the enlarged foyers and the street below. An extension to the existing tower, new show signage, a new raised canopy and feature window projecting over the entrance, combine to give the theatre its renewed presence in the heart of London’s theatre-land. Internally, the foyer and the toilet spaces were refurbished and doubled in size and capacity. The auditorium space was totally refurbished creating new side balcony positions, improved sight lines, and improved acoustics.
